Electrolysis...
the most effective method
of permanent hair removal to date !
|
Although hair removal by Laser and ELOS technologies is now considered to be the fastest method available, Electrolysis is still the most
reliable form of permanent hair removal discovered thus far.
Electrolysis is a method of permanent hair removal , introduced in 1875.
Since that time, it has been constantly improved and modernized . It has
now become a practical and affordable option for individuals seeking a
permanent solution to unwanted hair.
How does Electrolysis work ?
|
A very fine ,sterile filament is gently introduced alongside the hair follicle to
reach the base of the hair root. This filament is finer than the hair itself.
Since the follicle is an existing opening, the filament doesn't puncture the
skin.A mild electrical impulse is delivered through the filament by a
sensitive electronic device, which effectively destroys the hair root when the
hair is in the correct cycle thereby eliminating the hair germ cells. The objective is to achieve Permanent Hair Removal.
Electrolysis has over 125 years' history of safety and effectiveness. Only a
very small current is required. It works so well because it is focused at a
single follicle at a time. OMI uses the most up-to date methods of
sterilization and disinfection. For your protection, only pre-sterilized,
personal filaments are used and discarded after only one use. Electrolysis
is completely safe when applied by an experienced, conscientious OMI technologist.
Most people describe the sensation as a slight heat, tingling or stinging,
depending on the area being treated. Sensitivity differs among individuals
and can vary from one treatment session to the next. It can be affected by
things like stress and medication. It helps to be well hydrated and to avoid
caffeine and other stimulants on the day of treatment. Some parts of the
body, such as the face, are more sensitive than others. A topical anesthetic
is now available to maximize your comfort. However, it is usually not
required. We'll help you find the most comfortable combination of factors,
so that your time with us will be a most pleasant and relaxing experience.
Is Electrolysis permanent ?
|
Yes. Once the germ cells are eliminated, it is impossible for new hair to grow back in that follicle.
Why then, do I have to come back ?
|
Electrolysis requires a series of treatments given over a period of time. The
main reason is because hair growth follows a cycle - moving from an
active, visible stage, to an inactive dormant period, where it rests below the
skin's surface. Since about 30% of hairs will be in the dormant stage at any
given time, they cannot be found and treated until they appear sometime
later above the skin's surface.
Are there other factors that determine the length of treatment ?
|
Yes. Most hair germ cells are not eliminated the first time they are treated.
Some are more coarse and persistent, and have to be treated again.
However, the regrowth hairs are usually finer in texture, lighter in colour,
and more susceptible to the next treatment.Other factors include your skin
type, hair density , total area to be treated, and curvature of the hair follicle.
How well you tolerate treatments, the consistency of those treatments , and
previous hair removal methods you used, also affect overall success.
Because hair cycles are staggered and varied in length, it can take anywhere from
30 to 36 months to find and treat all unwanted hair.
Treatment will be more frequent in the beginning and less frequent later on.
However, no matter how stubborn it might be, the unwanted hair
doesn't stand a chance when OMI provides the treatment.
Some slight reddening and/or swelling of the skin may occur, which usually disappears
within an hour or so. Pinpoint scabs may appear on
the body for a day or two, but are a natural part of the healing process
and should be of no concern. Avoid over-exposure to strong sunlight for
a few days, and do not use makeup for 24 hours. Medicated cream and
an antiseptic astringent lotion are helpful to ward off any irritation or
superficial infection.
Who can be treated and what areas of the body can be treated ?
|
Electrolysis can be safely used on just about all people, men and women alike, with
all skin types and hair colours. Hair can be removed from almost any part of the body .
We cannot, however, treat eyelashes, hair on the inside of the nose or ear canal. If
you are diabetic you should check first with your physician.
Is electrolysis expensive ?
|
Consider the never - ending cost in time, money and aggravation for shaving, waxing
and tweezing. In comparison, competent, quality treatment and permanently sleek,
smooth skin is considered well worth the cost.
Is this procudure covered by insurance ?
|
Since hair removal is condidered a cosmetic procedure, most insurance companies do not
offer reimbursement for it. However, some companies do provide an allowance for self
improvement care for which receipts can be provided. You may wish to consult with
your insurance provider for more specific information.
